About Business Manners Quiz

Business Manners Quiz is a free study game for practising the business etiquette a new employee in Japan needs, in 40 four-choice questions. Six areas are covered: honorific language, phone calls and visitors, email and documents, interviews and grooming, business cards and seating order, and reporting lines and ways of working — from the five classes of keigo and how to fix "part-timer keigo" to email addressing and subject lines, how many times to knock before an interview, and who sits where. Every explanation gives the reason behind the rule. Answer a question correctly twice and it graduates, earning you Manners Seals.

The theme is the etiquette of working life: thinking about how your behaviour lands with the other person carries further than memorising forms. Note that manners can differ by company, industry and region; this quiz follows mainstream business-etiquette guides and the Agency for Cultural Affairs' Guidelines on Honorifics, and does not claim to hold the only right answer. Handy before a pre-employment training day or your first week at work.
